well we finally found an apartment. it should be ready by the end of this week for move in. no job yet.
fourth of july was pretty awesome. went to two parties, one in brooklyn heights right by the water and the other in downtown brooklyn in a super swanky apartment. fireworks on the rooftop at the first place, got trashed at the second place. drizzled all night but that's okay. the rest of the holiday weekend we went out to eat, went to the beach, went to greenpoint. our future apartment in greenpoint is across the street from this tasty polish place and on top of a pet store. awesome.

guess where i am?!
so my flight out of DFW was delayed four hours. why, universe, why?? but i finally came in last night at around 1030PM, maybe a little earlier. amy and i made a quick trip to walgreens last night and then hung around the apartment. we ordered nachos.
today i went to my interview, which kind of sucked. it was for a part time position with no number of hours guaranteed. i would basically have to have a free schedule and come in whenever students would want to have tutoring or whenever there was a class. and the schedule would change week to week. and they also wanted me to teach some lectures in korean, which i don't want to do. so i'm still looking for a job.
but we are 99% on an apartment. i say 99% because i haven't given the owner any money yet, but i am meeting him tomorrow to do that. i saw the apartment today. it's almost done being remodeled. it's small but cute and in greenpoint. the neighborhood seems really cool, lots of shops, grocery stores. it won't be ready until the middle of next week.
schedule through the weekend: dinner tonight at clint's work, about three rooftop parties, the beach, maybe some apartment stuff shopping. it's going to be great. pictures coming soon!

i've had oscar for almost exactly a year now. a year and maybe a couple of days i think. to celebrate, here is a recent camera phone picture of him:

in other news, i'm dogsitting for my sister and brother in law this weekend. so far all i've done is play a lot of lego indiana jones on the wii and eat all their tortilla chips and salsa. sorry, guys. more incredibly fascinating times to come, i'm sure. i think firiel is coming over later and we're gonna order pizza and play wii. i'm not a big video game person but if there's a game i like i'll play the shit out of it. for PS2 it was katamari damacy. i can't wait to play with amy in new york. for wii it's lego indiana jones. i really want to play star wars and batman, too. i have a DS lite but i haven't found a game i really like yet.
watched amadeus for the first time in a long time this morning. makes me want to read a biography on mozart. something to add to my to do list, i suppose.
things are looking up on the apartment front. keep your fingers crossed.

new music as of late: the kooks, vampire weekend, delays, colin meloy (sans the rest of the decemberists), and andrew WK. here's a funny picture:

not much happening. played wii at judy and derek's tonight. the lego indiana jones games is fun! i would really like to play the other games in the lego series. i also stepped in puppy shit while i was there, which was annoying and gross. what's even better was that it was sitting there for a while so it was a little dried which assured that it was super stuck to my foot. awesome.
i've been doing a lot of sketch swap lately. it's really fun. you draw a picture (using your mouse or a tablet or something), submit it, and then you get to see another person's drawing. here's something that was drawn for me the other day:
i like the guy's hair. i usually draw stupid things like UFOs abducting cows or huge distorted faces. i'll have to screen shot something i draw later on.
i think andrew WK is my new favorite music. maybe i'm biased because i'm listening to a song right now titled "i love NYC".

i've finally gotten around to actually utilizing my last.fm so if any of you are on there you should add me. i even have friends!
still looking for an apartment. i thought finding a job would be harder than finding an apartment. i think i was wrong.
spent a good portion of today looking at furniture online. mostly ikea. sometimes i think ikea is the devil and sometimes i think they have really cute shit. a new one just opened in brooklyn, so...
people i would like to hang out with in the next week: cristen, martin, and elizabeth.
today i ate a lot of spinach dip and pita chips. for dinner judy and derek came over and ordered pizza. we moved the beds.
i am unable to write about anything that i have to think about for more than a minute. my apologies.
i want to get drunk. right now.

went out last night for a friend's birthday. even though there was some drama it was fun in the end. at dinner the waiter got my order wrong twice. there were tons of people and i only knew two people to talk to, besides my friend. those two vanished when we headed out to greenville after dinner. i spent most of the night talking to my friend and a bouncer at the bar. he chatted a lot about his love life ("i've been a kept man before") and he wasn't hitting on me, which is the funny and annoying part. i bought a drink for him. i also bought a drink for the rooftop bartender, this hot sort of butch looking girl with lots of piercings and tattoos. then she bought me a shot and called me babe. later when i closed out my tab (which ended up being only $10) she gave me a jello shot. i don't know why i was hitting on her.
today i'm going to help judy and derek write thank you cards for gifts they received when they got married and then judy and i are going to move furniture in my mom's house.
still no apartment!

someone just came to my door now with my wallet. it was in addison circle, which is where judy lives. guess it was just in the street. i have no idea. i was falling all over myself thanking the guy. awesome!
also, i have a job interview lined up for july 2, the day after i arrive in new york. it's for a position similar to what i was doing in korea, but i would be teaching adults instead.
we still don't have an apartment but we've started the process on one we really like. hopefully we will get it.

the wireless internet i've been pirating went out for a long while today so i worked some more on the book. i feel like an asshole saying that for some reason, The Book. anyway, current word count: 3156. using the word count reminds me of writing papers that had a word count minimum: 200, 500, 1000.
i just had the shit clawed out of my left arm tonight while clipping oscar's nails and then grooming him. he actually bit me, too, which he never does. guess he was pretty unhappy. i yelled at him like a person because i think he might understand. "what the fuck are you doing? i'm trying to help you, asshole!"

okay so i just started writing a novel. i know, right? although i didn't mean to i found some inspiration from a video on tao lin's blog. i'm going for nonsensical. actually right now it makes some sense but, well, i guess that's what editing will be for.
i'm kind of excited about this. last night i wrote out a bunch of ideas for the thing and tonight i started thinking about it again, feeling overwhelmed. i just thought, "this shit is not going to go anywhere," but i guess i won't know unless i try. so i'm trying.
i finally watched the darjeeling limited tonight. the DVDs i rented are late. i don't know why i don't just join netflix. i'm so 20th century. but yeah, it was cute, really pretty to look at: actors, scenery, colors. making out in bathrooms is really hot. i'm adding that to my new year's resolutions: make out more in bathrooms (along with drinking more and being more creative in general).
back to the novel. so far i've got 280 words!

saw sex and the city. it was just like a really long episode, but the ending was a bit eh. i liked the movie, though. went and saw it with firiel. made me excited to move to new york. we had dinner at this place called urban taco, which took forever. food was decent, though. not very good mojitos, though. the first time the server asked i said it was "okay" and the second time i said they were "good". obviously i'm dumb.
afterwards we went to IHOP and ate and hung out and talked about lots of things. i can always count on her to give me a real honest opinion about whatever. i think i got some perspective on some things.

watching a video about a chinese guy going through bone lengthening surgery. fucking crazy! i thought it was big in korea but apparently it's very popular in china as well. four inches in a year!
watched spun tonight. makes me glad i never got into speed. tomorrow i'll watch the darjeeling limited. oh, jason shwartzman. sigh.
now i'm watching a video about exorcism in the philippines.
it's 447 am. i really should go to sleep.

so i've been emailing resumes, emailing potential roommates, and trying to keep myself from falling asleep. any help in any of those categories would be awesome.
i'm in the mood for some cake.
right now i'm supposed to be looking for some clothes that oscar has outgrown to give to judy for her new puppy, hans. he is a dachshund/poodle mix, a doodle. wiener doodle. i was contemplating changing the spelling of oscar's name to oskar, to make it more german, but i decided against it. it reminds me too much of the tin drum's character. judy and derek need another doodle named franz. i stole that joke from someone else.

A/C is fixed~! commence with the rejoicing. i shall celebrate the end of my sweating indoors by going to the store and buying bottled water because i am paranoid about drinking the tap water here. it's okay to drink the tap water in korea but NOBODY does. koreans are a bit paranoid, i think, in general. right now there are protesters getting arrested for protesting against imported american beef (fear of mad cow disease is all the rage there). and lots of people aren't eating chicken for fear of AI. i'm sure pig farmers are raking in the won right about now.
